The system IOL-K was designed to allow even those patients not suitable for an IOL-Vip implantation, to improve their visual performance in some cases such as: watching TV, reading or using PC.
One of the critical elements in the preoperative evaluation is the functional improvement reported by practical tests carried out with a magnification by IOL-Vip Simulator. There are no specific exclusion criteria except those valued to perform a normal cataract.
The system IOL-K has been developed by specialists in low vision and ophthalmic surgeons, with the intent to improve the central vision, in patients with macular degeneration.
How it works:
In a healthy eye, the images are focused on the center of the macula
With this procedure, the natural lens is replaced by a lens IOL-K that has at its center a small negative portion sized as the scotoma. This solution allows to maintain the peripheral visual field as with the insertion of a normal IOL.
The peculiarity of the IOL-K, lies in its central negative portion that, if combined with appropriate eyewear external positive value, creates a Galilean telescope with magnification of about 3 times and a customized prismatic effect.
In this way the patient, when he is without glasses, is autonomous during walking as he has all of his visual field, while during the activities of reading and writing, he willwear the glasses to dial the telescope for near vision, or those provided for the composition of the telescope for distance.
The IOL-K is realized in one piece (= One), i.e. both the optical zone as the haptic zone, are made of the same material, i.e. the loops are taken from the center of the lens and form an integral part of the lens itself.

The inclusion and exclusion criteria for the implantation of IOL-K are predicted automatically by the software SAVAplus, just entering the data at intake and of VA reached with the IOL-Vip Simulator.
