Starting a Rehabilitation Project needs necessarily take into account the motivation of the patient to determine the path. A low vision patient with a residual vision of 1/10 that has the need to resume reading characters in print (equal to 3/10) will progressively helped to read characters ever smaller and increasingly long words, up to the achievement of its potential visual capabilities. To achieve this objective, the rehabilitation project is based on visual and functional aspects such as visual acuity necessary (eg to read the typeface 3/10) and the point of spontaneous eccentric fixation (PRL subjective visual acuity = residual used) and the area of greatest resolution retinal (PRL target = Visual acuity potential), these data allow to automatically process a rehabilitation program. Lenspecial, based on a study conducted by the Center for Visual Rehabilitation of Ophthalmology, University of Milan, San Paolo Hospital, has developed a software in order to propose the most suitable exercises to the specific visual and functional aspects of the patient (NeWinFlash).
